BRASS

D&R Machine has been providing reliable high precision machining services to its customers since 1971. With over fifty years of experience, our machinists are no strangers to producing complex machined parts—by either our manual or CNC machines housed in our in-house precision machine shop.

BRASS OVERVIEW

A versatile material with excellent machinability, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc commonly used throughout all industries, from pipe fittings to automobile components to ammunition.

Compared to a pure copper, brass maintains a higher level of durability while mostly retaining its corrosion-resistant and thermal conductive properties. Similar to aluminum and its many different grades and classes of alloys, brass can be alloyed with different materials to augment and strengthen certain mechanical properties to be more ideal for various use cases.

Machine shops opt to manufacture brass components for its relative ease of use in machining. With less hardness and short chip formation while subtracting material, its use in CNC milling and turning machines allows for short production runs, effectively allowing for a higher number of finished products in a given time.

Hollow Brass Tubes

Brass is commonly used to manufacture fittings and valves for industries such as plumbing and automotive for applications requiring fluid process control. Corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties make brass an ideal choice for medical equipment, marine environments, and devices in the food and beverage industry.
