ALUMINUM

D&R Machine has been providing reliable high precision machining services to its customers since 1971. With over fifty years of experience, our machinists are no strangers to producing complex machined parts—by either our manual or CNC machines housed in our in-house precision machine shop.

ALUMINUM OVERVIEW

One of the most common and reliable materials used throughout the world, aluminum is a soft, ductile, and lightweight metal used essentially everywhere for its high strength-to-weight ratio, conductivity in electronics applications, corrosion-resistant properties, and inexpensiveness. Depending on the aluminum alloy chosen, aluminum's versatility is its key strength and allows for it to be processed it any shape and size by machine shops around the world.

Due to its inherent lack of strength, aluminum is commonly alloyed with stronger materials such as copper (2000 series alloys), manganese (3000 series alloys), silicon (4000 series alloys), magnesium (5000 series alloys), magnesium and silicon (6000 series), or zinc (7000 series alloys). These alloys allow aluminum greater versatility to tackle more niche uses in various industries.

Machine shops opt to use the 6000 series alloys of aluminum for its machinability compared to other alloys and pure aluminum. Aluminum alloy 6061 sees widespread use as a general-purpose aluminum. Where an increase in hardness is needed compared to the 6000 series magnesium and silicon alloys, either the 2000 series mixed with copper or the 7000 series mixed with zinc are a more optimal option due to their heat treatment in the fabrication process.

D&R'S ALUMINUM SERVICES

D&R Machine makes a variety of products from aluminum alloys—particularly in the production of manifolds. Our shop typically uses aluminum alloys 6061 and 7075 for general-purpose

aluminum products due to its machinability. As such, these alloys find their use in almost every industry in the world, including but not limited to aerospace, food and beverage, semiconductors, electronics, medical, and construction.

D&R Machine reviews all engineering drawings, 3D STEP files, and CAD files to assist our customers in machined part fabrication for their needs. For any aluminum CNC milling or turning, contact D&R Machine to get a quote for your machined part.
