OUR STORY
D&R Machine saw its founding in 1971 to Richard and Dorothy Hines whose initiative kickstarted the legacy and gold standard that the company carries to this day. Richard Hines, employed at the Illinois-based Elgin Watch Company and learning under its watch-making and tool and die school, started D&R Machine as a watch manufacturing business. Through watch production, Richard would learn machine building—which initially were made as watch-producing machines.
Richard Hines' transition into machine building saw a transition away from watch production and more into general machine building. From watch-building machines, Richard would begin to build safety and arming devices for various companies which expanded D&R Machine's work portfolio beyond its original niche and allowed the company to branch out to other industries as a multi-purpose machine shop.
Daniel Hines, Richard's son, would eventually pick up the torch where his father left off in D&R Machine's new ventures as a machine shop for highly demanding industries. With a focus centered on machine building and manual machining, D&R Machine's services would expand to both the medical and aerospace industries where a dedication to precision and professionalism earned the company its partnership with various companies in high-demand industrial sectors.
Today, D&R Machine's staff carry Richard's and Daniel's legacy to nurture the business under its machining and engineering services under new ownership. From its initial venture as a small machine shop to its current 4040 square foot facility in Anaheim, CA, D&R Machine's storied history is one of passion for work and the willingness to do right by our people and partners.
